E-readers: Glowing Displays Now, Color Screens Later?

The e-reader market is becoming very interesting to watch with the release of the new NOOK Simple Touch. B&N has been looking for ways to catch up with Amazon in the e-reader market for quite some time. The latest NOOK with its glowing display does that and more. It is a fun, compact e-reader with a killer battery life and a screen which lets owners read books in bed.

The NOOK Simple Touch with GlowLight not only lets users read e-books in dark rooms, it also gives them the option to adjust brightness on their screen. This is an exciting development but nothing new by any means. We have been hearing rumors about Amazon adding front-lit displays to the next generation Kindle devices. Now the company has no choice but to deliver.

The competition between Amazon and Barnes & Noble in the e-reader market has proven great for consumers. Not only e-reader prices are very low at this point, these companies are pushing each other to deliver more quality products. It will be interesting to see when Amazon will deliver its color e-paper Kindles. The company has been testing the idea for quite some time. Releasing those seems to be the next logical move by Amazon, unless B&N gets to do it first again.
