Amazon To Release 2 New Kindles?

Amazon still has one of the best e-book readers on the market in Kindle 3. But all experts agree that the time has come for the company to introduce new e-readers to keep its lead over B&N and its other rivals. A report by WSJ suggests Amazon will bring a tablet and 2 new Kindle models to the market in the next few months. Amazon’s tablet will have a 9 inch screen and could become a powerful alternative to NOOK Color. This tablet won’t have a camera but will allow its owners to play with apps, read books, and watch video content.

Two new Kindle models are expected for the third quarter of this year. One of these Kindles will have a touchscreen display (similar to NOOK Simple Touch Reader). The second model will be a budget model with design modifications over Kindle 3. It will be interesting to see how Amazon will price these Kindles. It has already dropped its price on Kindle 3G with special offers.

The challenge for Amazon remains finding a way to avoid cannibalizing its Kindle sales with its upcoming tablet product. Jeff Bezos has suggested in the past that people would want to own both a Kindle and an iPad. Since Amazon’s first tablet will be a budget tablet, would Amazon customers want to own both devices? That remains to be seen.

What features would you like Amazon to add to Kindle 4?
