Are Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HDX devices in trouble? Maybe the company wants to encourage more people to give its tablet a try. It is now offering customers a 30-day free trial of Kindle Fire HDX. I have mentioned in the past few days the reasons I absolutely hate Kindle Fire devices. When you buy a Kindle device, you are not buying an Android tablet. You are paying an annual subscription fee to Amazon. After all, the company does not update older Kindles or at least it has not announced it plans to (no Fire OS 3.0). Many of my old Android tablets still get the latest updates. That does not seem to be the case with Amazon Kindles.
The Kindle Fire HDX and HDX 8.9″ are both beautiful gadgets and have a lot going for them. Returning them is pretty easy. When I returned mine, no questions were asked, and Amazon made the process easy. Now customers can try a Kindle tablet for a month to figure out whether they need one. Despite all its problems, the iPad Mini Retina is still a much better deal to my eyes.[via]
