Yahoo! has not been relevant in the search business for a while now. But studying its Year in Review report is always interesting. This year’s report was no different. The iPhone 5 was the most searched gadget of 2012 in the U.S. But things were much different in the U.K. The UK 2012 Year in Review report by Yahoo! suggest that folks in the U.K region were most interested in Amazon Kindles this year. The iPhone and iPad also made the list but could not keep up with the Amazon Kindle. Of course, this is only Yahoo! search. But it should be encouraging for Amazon to top Apple in this report. Will Kindle sales top iPad sales this year? Not likely.
Speaking of cool products, the PengPod tablet is expected to start shipping to IndieGoGo contributors in January. This is a $100 tablet capable of dual booting Android and Linux. Putting Linux on tablets is not the greatest idea. But it is a great operating system regardless. The PengPod comes in two versions, The PengPod 700 and 1000 come with a seven and 10 inch screens respectively. They each have 1 GB RAM and 8 GB flash. These won’t be an iPad or Kindle killer though. How this project grows from here remains to be seen.
