After all, why would anyone want to spend more money than they have to? Amazon has dropped its Kindle prices by $140 in the past few years. But $259 is still a high price to pay for those who are skeptic about the platform or just don’t read books much. So it’s no wonder that many look for Kindle discounts before picking up their own from Amazon. There is nothing wrong with trying to save some money with your purchase of a Kindle. But you want to make sure you don’t fall for too good to be true offers that are out there on the market. If you have searched for Kindle discounts on Google, you have probably seen those offers.

A search for the term “Kindle” produced two sponsored search listings promising huge discounts on Kindle. If you could save 90% on your Kindle, wouldn’t you be tempted to check out these listings? But a lot of these offers are too good to be true. Nobody likes a scam, but that’s usually what you get with these astonishing offers. I admit, I was tempted to figure out what was being sold for $64.95. I was sure it can’t be a real Kindle 2. To my surprise, the site was offering a Kindle 2 in new condition for $65. But here is what I was able to find in the site’s terms and conditions:

The checkout process consists for four actions required by the user the receive their product. The user must complete one advertiser offer from each of the 3 offer pages. The user must then refer 5 of their friends to do the same.

So it’s possible to get a $65 Kindle. It’s just next to impossible to finish all the steps and most likely you are going to have to sign up for offers that will cost you in the end. We all want Amazon to lower its prices on Kindle. Maybe the company could allow more people to sell their used or old Kindles or maybe it could offer Kindle for a lower price with a book subscription plan. But let’s be realistic here. Nobody is going to sell you a Kindle for $65 in brand new condition without a catch. So don’t fall for Kindle scams. Reporting some of these offers wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

Your turn: what’s the most outrageous Kindle scam you have seen online?

Amazon Doubles Selections For Kindle

P. class="alignnone size-full wp-image-169" title="kindled" src="http://k.indled.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/kindled.jpg" alt="" width="485" height="240" />

This tell me two things:

Amazon has been working hard to make the Kindle platform more popular, and this announcement shows that Kindle is not going anywhere. So for those who were afraid it’d be discontinued, it seems it will be around for a while.

Amazon is getting ready to release the new Kindles soon, and they can use all the promotional boosts they can get. One strong plus would be having a large selection of cheaper book. Rumors are going around that Amazon will announce their next plans by the end of October, early November. I wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon lays the ground for their next major announcement.

Now a lot of these new titles are magazine and blogs, but you can almost sense the speedy fashion that Amazon has been bringing books to the Kindle platform. The books that I wanted to buy a few months ago but were not available for the Kindle are now all available for the platform. In addition, many new books come in the Kindle edition as well. Let’s hope Amazon continues this trend to fulfil Jeff Bezos’ original dream for Kindle (digitizing all books in the world).

Links from around the net

P.
