Can some tell me how to reset a Kindle? I dropped mine the top of the screen is greyed out. I want to give it one try on the reset.

another dissatisfied kindle customer. i have a kindle keyboard that's 15 months old. screen went blank with horizontal & vertical lines. kindle will replace but only for $85. i don't want to buy another one, i want them to replace it. Apple would NEVER do this to their customers. amazing that a company like amazon does this. they just lost another customer. it's a shame too because it was a pretty good product.

My kindle is 1 year and 1 month old as well and is a nice sturdy cover. It dropped off our bed which is about 30" onto a carpet and now the screen is all blitzed. I've tried resetting and nothing. Looking for a repair place I came across this site. I am extremely disappointed at what I Have read and learned here. i wonder if the Nook has the same issues and no way to repair them.

My experience is totally contrary to those above – what a relief!!

My wife dropped her kindle DX and the screen is cracked, and is no longer displaying correctly. It's less than 2 months old so we were pretty disappointed. It was absolutely our fault and I'd not expect any equipment to survive that fall.

We used Amazon's online chat, and in about 30 minutes, the support people advised us they would be sending us a replacement Kindle DX, and a pre-paid voucher to return the original broken one back to them.

There are few firms these days who would consider doing this – outstanding service.

Needless to say I'll be looking forwards to adding a Kindle Fire and/or Touch once the initial reviews and hooplah settle down.

my kindle is almost one year old, and someone in my house drop it, but no one would admit it: the first time i saw this some part of the carcass was disjointed and when i turned it on, it took a while to show my files, and even showed a progress bar with the tree image on bakcground… since then, some times it work fine, but others, it just won't turn on at all… unless i leave it charging for a while…. DAMN!

i got my kindle as a present and a few months later i was reading it while multitasking and so then the screen broke accidentally and i checked the pamphlet of the warranty and then it said it doesn't apply to anything accidental or damage done by fires and such that seems pretty stupid to do though cuz of a lot of angry customers who wont buy more products from them and even stupider to not make a store for repairs so as to keep happy customers but noo they don't have one they just want to take as little responsibility as they can so that they can get out of helping you and you end up buying another one if you think about it your probably better off sticking with apple and such cuz they HAVE repair stores.

i think you shouldn't attempt to repair a kindle, or any other electronics for that matter, without any experience or knowledge.

i have seen another post on this subject which still recommends Amazon's repair services.

Well I am a moron . Stuck s heavy packing tub on my bed without remembering my kindle was underneath the blanket out of site. So the page it was on now has electronic ink running down half the page. Is there a place to repair it or am I better off just buying a new one? Dumb ? I know. 2nd generation . 6 inch wi fi kindle

@D Rowland If your father's Kindle setup was like mine, I assume you mean that the Kindle was connected to a USB cable that connects to the little adapter to a standard power outlet, and that adapter was inserted the wrong way and broke?
