While we have not been super impressed with Kindle 3′s specifications, it is still the best stand-alone e-book reader around. The improved screen and battery life make it much easier for book fans to put their trust in this device. Amazon has been adding more e-book titles to its database, so Kindle owners have plenty of content to consume on their devices too.
Kindle 3 is not perfect though. It can be improved in many areas, including but not limited to:
- document support
- alternative power sources (e.g. solar)
- better storage
- removable battery
- better web experience
- Kindle software
Kindle 4 is probably about a year away from making it to the market. It is always interesting to try and guess what these large companies will do next. We have many die-hard Kindle fans in our community who are perfectly happy with their Kindle 3. Still, it’d be interesting to see what would make Kindle the perfect e-reader for them. So let’s build Kindle 4 together. If you were the head of Amazon Kindle’s design team, how would you put together the perfect Kindle 4? What features would you add (over Kindle 3)?

Let me confirm this, Kindle 4 will have Qualcomm's mirasol color display. It is already in lab test.
That means good color display with larger battery life. Also it will be touch screen and will work on verizon 3G/LTE network.

as far as I have heard, Amazon is working on an Android tablet to go with its Android app store, separate from "Kindle 4" which will use an e-paper display.

I'd like a custom zoom function for pdf's, with a option to show not only the left or right side of the page, but also the middle.

From what I have heard, Amazon's Android Tablet will cost a tad bit more than what Kindle is priced right now. I think this could be the year we get $99 Kindles (WiFi only of course).

Simply i think that kindle need, a good tools about reading action.
- More letter types
- More screen adjusts
- More document types acces
- Writing mode (i think that more people write more in pc than pages…)
- The possibility of configure your kindle creating optional menus to your books (add coment in your kindle, configure personal dates about books…)
- If i could write one book or tale in my kindle, could be possible up my text to amazon.com and get started to
sell… (that was a great idea for me..). Amazon has my account registered in kindle, this could be possible, no?
– I think, kindle is the best device to read books, its simply the best machine… only have to develope more expressions about the act of reading.

Touchscreen.
A block application to write notes and maybe draw.
Numbers in the keyboard.
Lend eBooks to other kindles wirelessly.
More intuitive way to jump back and forward between chapters or bookmarks without loosing your progress.

I wish it could make "collections of collections" that would really help keep the home page neater.

Mirasol display.
More space.
Better document support.
One smaller font size.
Solar.
Bring back the keyboard and buttons of Kindle 2.
Ability to sort books (and other documents) through the usual Amazon hierarchy of book topics.
Same size, same weight.
